From Torbay Heights to Long Bay via 3 reserves, have a swim and lunch at Long Bay then return via 5 small reserves back to Torbay Heights. Some urban walking. Bring your togs etc.

Sunday 5 February Walk Taumanu Bay & Onehunga Bay Reserves
Mostly flat walking in attractive coastal settings. We will leave from the car park of Onehunga Train Station (OTS) heading west on Prince St to former military barracks; on to Onehunga Bay Reserve (OBR) circuit; and over Beachcroft Rd Bridge to Taumanu Bay Reserve (TBR). Both reserves have a toilet. After lunch we will: continue west along Waikowhai Coastal Walkway; around Seacliff hill and down to TBR; east along coastal walkway to the TBR overbridge; into OBR and back to train station car park.
Optional coffee break at Gastropub Café. This walk will take about 2.5 hours, including 20 minutes for lunch.

Monday 6 February Waitangi Day - MOTAT Western Springs
Free entry for Gold Card Holders. See early Kiwi innovations, early tech heritage and the historic 1877 brick pumphouse which pumped water from Western Springs to the Ponsonby Reservoir. We’ll take the tram ride around to the historic aircraft Aviation Hall on Meola Rd.
Lunch – Motat café, BYO lunch, or Waitangi Day Food Trucks.

Thursday 9 February Tramp Te Rau Puriri Regional Park
An easy tramp at South Head on the Kaipara. There is a loop track of about 7kms and a good swimming beach (bring your togs), high tide about 2.00pm. Park is about 70kms from Albany. Please let me know if you are

Sunday 12 February Walk Auckland Zoo
Celebrating 100 years with a special exhibition in “The Domes”. See the new Indonesian swamp forest on the South East Asian Jungle walk, new arrivals: two long, slender-snouted Sunda crocodiles, and two new young Sumatran tigers, Ramah and Zayana. See baby orangutan Bahmi, born March 2022, 1.5kg, her Mum Melur and Dad Charlie. On the day I’ll check the daily keeper talk schedule. It’ll be a self-guided walk and an optional BYO lunch and/or meet up for lunch together in the new Te Puna cafe at midday.

Wednesday 15 February Walk Coxs Creek/Westmere Circuit
Medium 2 – 3 hour walk around Westmere/Coxs and Meola Creek area. Reserves, fields, footpaths, 2 small bush areas, and coastal path. Café a few minutes from the end.

Saturday 18 February Walk Tahuna Torea to Point England Reserve
Walking to Point England Reserve is flat and easy, but (optional) return journey is via different tracks winding around Omaru Creek. Covered shoes and walking poles recommended. Bus 762 from the city goes to West Tamaki Road. Please text organiser if you intend to join the walk.

Monday 20 February Dog Walk Western Springs
Do join me for an easy one hour stroll around Western Springs lake, with or without a dog, followed by coffee at local cafe.

Thursday 23 February Tramp Hakarimata Track, Ngaruawahia
Medium Tramp. I intend to do the Southern Walkway to summit, (about 2 hours), then down the summit track, and road walk back to cars (about 1½ hours). Then, if there is time, drive to the Northern section and do part of the Kauri loop and Hakarimata walkway.
Please let me know if you are coming, the tracks are weather dependent. It is 130kms from Albany.

Sunday 26 February Medium Walk Mt William (South Auckland)
This is a 2 hour plus walk along the top end of Mt William to trig and return. It’s over farmland with lots of ups and downs.

Sunday 5 March Walk Albany to Unsworth
Under Constellation tunnel through to Unsworth on picturesque walkway, around the bush to Unsworth and back to Rosedale Park, down to Clemows orchard, along the stream at Albany reserve, returning to Rosedale park. 2.5 to 3 hours. Lunch spot included. We will be walking through some grassed areas so suitable footwear is required.
